Penang Sentral

Penang Sentral is a transit-oriented development located in Butterworth, Penang, Malaysia, designed to serve as the primary transportation hub for the state of Penang and the wider Greater Penang area. The project was inspired by Kuala Lumpur's KL Sentral, and its first phase opened on November 22, 2018.

Similar to its counterpart, Penang Sentral's initial phase functions as a terminal for both local and intercity buses. It is seamlessly connected to the neighboring Butterworth railway station and the Penang Ferry terminal. As the project progresses, it aims to create an integrated terminal that accommodates all bus, rail, and sea transportation services in Penang. Additionally, future phases of the development plan include the incorporation of commercial, retail, and residential elements.

Penang Sentral underwent a comprehensive development plan divided into eight phases. Notably, the second, third, and fourth phases played significant roles, introducing a shopping complex, three office blocks, and a striking 36-storey hotel, respectively.

In the second phase, a modern shopping complex was constructed within Penang Sentral. This addition aimed to create a vibrant retail environment, catering to the diverse preferences of both locals and visitors. The shopping complex was thoughtfully designed, featuring a wide range of local and international brands, providing a unique and engaging shopping experience.

Moving on to the third phase, the focus shifted to the establishment of three office blocks. These blocks were designed to offer exceptional facilities and an ideal working environment for businesses. With a vision to attract both local and international companies, the office blocks incorporated modern architectural elements and state-of-the-art technology infrastructure. They aimed to foster economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and position Penang Sentral as a prominent business hub.

The fourth phase witnessed the construction of an impressive 36-storey hotel within the development. This magnificent addition became an iconic landmark, elevating the stature of Penang Sentral.
